Abstract:

This brief is on AIDS resource challenges and solutions in Africa. It claims that Africa is on the move to achieve economic strength for AIDS treatment and a partner paradigm shift on partnership is required as an effective solution. Another problem is that of the AIDS dependency crisis which is a threat to improving the lives of its people. The treatment gap in Africa is wide and growing. The solutions to reduce external dependency in the HIV response include: 1. Strengthening African ownership of development Promoting investments through utilizing more diversified resources; 2.Creating an African Medicines Regulatory Agency for faster roll out of drugs and stronger quality assurance; and 3.Catalysing local production of medicines in partnership with the BRICS group of countries and other emerging economies.
