Abstract:

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) issues are a fundamental component in the HIV response, yet they have been neglected or misunderstood in Africa for a long time. The integration of LGBTI, SRH rights, HIV and gender-based violence (GBV) through rights-based approaches is integral to halting and reversing the spread of HIV. This discussion provided service providers, programme implementers and policy makers with knowledge in understanding the integration of LGBTI issues into HIV and SRHR programmes. This 5 day moderated discussion, run from May 7 – 11, 2012, focused on LGBTI communities and their rights, needs and ability to access sexual reproductive health (SRH) and HIV services in Africa.
