These are the guidelines that were developed in September 2005, during the Joint WHO/ILO Expert Consultation for the Development of Policy and Guidelines on Occupational and Non-occupational HIV Post-exposure Prophylaxis, which was held in
Geneva. The objectives of this Consultation were (1) to review scientific evidence and programmatic experience in relation to providing PEP in occupational and non-occupational settings and (2) to recommend a consensus approach to formulating policy and operational guidelines for HIV PEP. Chapter 1 provides the background. Chapter 2 is on policy development and implementation. Chapter 3 is on clinical management of PEP. Chapter 4 is on occupational PEP. Chapter 5 then gives information on PEP to people who have been sexually assaulted.
