Looks at the effective strategies proposed by UNAIDS to enable a breakthrough in the AIDS response. The book first assesses the state of the epidemic and people living with HIV/AIDS. It also presents statistics on the new HIV infections and AIDS-related deaths in different parts of the world. It then looks at accelerating the epidemic’s decline in the AIDS response. Strategies on the following are finally given: behaviour change, acceleration through a focus on people at higher risk of HIV infection, provision of antiretroviral treatment, accelerating the decline in tuberculosis deaths, providing smart investments, partnershps, political commitments, eliminating infections in children, vaccine research as well as intensifying programme efforts.
